Mike and Laura Budler - South Africa EBM: Training Nationals, Sports Outreach The Budlers are thankful for open doors of ministry in Atlantis and Strandfontein. Nicolaas and Ursula Perrang, a South African family, drove several years to Grace Baptist Church in Table View because their city, Atlantis, did not have a Bible-believing church. With the blessing of Grace Baptist, the Budlers and the Perrangs have launched a small group church plant in Atlantis, gathering friends and neighbors for Sunday morning meetings at the Perrang's home. Mike and Laura's opportunities to teach future African pastors and evangelists have been blooming in exciting ways. Mike is teaching a class at the Evangelical Bible College (EBC) in Strandfontein, a far southern suburb of Cape Town (www.ebcollege.org). Laura teaches an English class for the students, most of whom speak English as a second or third language. Additionally, Laura continues to teach and minister weekly at United Sanctuary, a shelter in Atlantis for abused women and their children. She also volunteers to teach at two preschools in DuNoon Township and the whole family assists regularly with "Care in the Cape" - a soup kitchen ministry providing food daily to the poorest of the poor in DuNoon. Brian and Lauri Dix - Portugal ABWE: Church Planting, Pastor Training The Dixes arrived in Portugal in 1991 to join the ABWE team in their efforts of church-planting. In 2001, they were asked to help 're-start' the Ramada Baptist Church, which had dwindled down to about a dozen discouraged believers. Since then, the church has become healthy and worship attendance is reaching 60. There was only one teen girl five years ago and now the group of 15-20 youth is highly active in the church, especially in the area of worship. Brian is the primary pastor of the church and Lauri, Nathan and Matthew all contribute in significant ways. Numerous methods of evangelism and outreach are used to develop contacts, but spiritual movement in the lives of the highly relational Portuguese people is usually based on strong, long-term friendships. Brian also teaches occasional classes in our field-wide leadership/pastoral training program. Prayer Letter |

Missionary to China Associate Pastor Though we are unable to know the personal details of our Chinese pastor's family due to the risk of him being revealed in a country which isn't friendly to the true Gospel, we have been his sole financial support since 1994. The persecution seems to be lessenning due to China hosting the upcoming 2008 Olympics at Beijing, but there are still occasional raids on Christians on the local level. In 1996 we surprised him with funds to purchase a motorcycle to aid in his commute to his many house churches which were miles apart, and a replacement motorcycle in 2006. In 2000, he let us know of his desire to offer training to Christian workers. We were able to send funds for the purchase of lumber for tables and benches needed as well as a stipend for each one who attended the session. He is now married and has a young daughter and son. He presently ministers to one church and many groups associated with that church. |
